Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are divided into two distinct groups – Simple Sugars and Complex Sugars:-
Simple Sugars are commonly sweet and sugary and include sweets and fruit. Simple Sugars can be defined as being ‘empty calories’ and typically have a high GI content.
Complex Sugars are dense and starchy foods and include bread, potatoes and rice. Complex Sugars will make you feel full and satisfied and the GI content varies.
Whether Simple or Complex, 1 gramme of carbohydrates contains 4 calories and total intake should be 55% of all the food we eat in a day.
